The rain beat rhythmically against the window panes, a relaxing background to the day. Curled up on the sofa, an old wool blanket on her legs, an open book in her hands, she enjoyed the quiet of her home. Her feet, wearing a pair of white socks now grayed by time and the day's adventures, lazily peeked out from under the blanket. Nicoletta was not a girl who was particularly attentive to order. In fact, to tell the truth, chaos was a bit of her natural habitat. Her room was an explosion of colors, books scattered everywhere, clothes abandoned on a chair and scribbled sheets of paper that seemed to float in the air. And her white socks, well, they were a bit of a symbol of this approach to life.
